About Task Priority

Top  Previous  Next

The various options in SnapStream allow you to create a wide variety of tasks for the system to process, and it's possible to create more tasks than the system can run at a single time.

How does SnapStream decide how tasks are prioritized in the queue?

Between tasks of the same type, SnapStream will always process tasks in the order in which they were submitted or created.

Clipping, moving, and other simple tasks can be performed by any SnapStream node.

ShowSqueeze (transcode) and SmartSkip (commercial detection) tasks will only be performed on nodes that have the Processor Intensive option enabled, in the Machine settings page.

The number of processor-intensive tasks that can be performed on a single server node is limited according to an algorithm.

Even if all nodes are performing the maximum number of processor-intensive tasks, clips will still be created, one at a time. In addition, transcodes of clips shorter than 15 minutes (by default- this can be configured in Transcoding settings) will be "jumped" to the front of the transcoding queue, and one of these will be processed at a time when processing power becomes available.

If you have questions about how the Task queue is handled, contact SnapStream support for more information.
